RockFoxie 2.03

RockFoxie 2.03 appeared as the result of 100% remaking of 2.02. The only details coming from previous version are front lights and 2108 knuckles. The main purposes of remodeling are: SIMPLIFICATION, REALISM & EFFEMINATION. We're close to production now - the model to be converted to technical drawings soon.

What's new in 2.03?

General changes:
  • Frame. The backbone frame was replaced to space frame in the front and rear backbone in case of simplification and enforcement. Rear backbone was implemented because of complex geometry of source 2108 suspension and engine parts.
  • Rear suspension. We declined the idea of standard 2108 McPherson in the rear suspension because of really weird look + dubious upper mount points. The trailing arm are in use now.
  • Front suspension. The 2121 suspension beam is to heavy for RF, so we've decided to use wishbones of our own desing. Now Front suspension have classic scheme with 2 transversal wishbones.
  • Cowl. New frame requires new cowl. We're happy with it because we could lower the cowl's height over the ground. Also we shrink the nose and as it seems RockFoxie became much more feminine now.
  • Real dimentions. All of the main dimentions are real now. Yes, some parts like engine are still conditional, but the outer dimentions are true. We'd taken natural measurements and were sure of where the true parts are situated before projecting.

  • General idea

The RockFoxie 2.03 general idea is the same as 2.02 - is the track-day car. We don't plan its usage on common roads, trailer will deliver it to the racing track. That's why it doesn't need certification. It's too early now to speak about quantity of cars to be built, but 1 prototype should be made at least.

    Simple shapes

Please pay attention to the fact we don't use complex surfaces curved along more then 1 axis. That's the fundamental pronciple we took from the early beginning. This way we have economy on all stages. 3d modeling is going faster and also we use sheet materials during all the production process. No fiberglass forming, no steel punching. Everything should be real, we don't want impossible tasks.

    Manufacturability

Laser cutting allows to get ideal precision of detail made of sheet. Laser cutting machines "understand" .dwg/.dxf files. We just give our .dwg draft and laser cuts the detail we need. Steel back-bone frame, joining plates, plastic cowls, bakelite plywood details will be made like that. We shall mount the frame with good precision and get the details faster.

    Standard spare parts

Our country has nothing more standard than production of main automobile plant. That's because we intend to use engine and suspension elements taken from 2108/2101. Also we respect our industry and consider the engine and parts have good resource and tuning possibilities. Another benefit is accessibility and low cost of all the Lada spare parts.

    Resume

The general target is to build "Foxie" with small team efforts. However we'd be happy to take any help from You! Welcome!
